EVERGLADES CITY, Fla. - When Shannon Dudley begins the six-month-long stone crab season on Oct. 15 on his boat Strictly Business, he’ll carry with him the blessings of his friends, family and local churches.

“It’s a wonderful thing,” he said. “We need it.”

Residents of Everglades City came together at the historic Rod and Gun Club to bless stone crab crews and their boats Saturday at noon, while enjoying art, food and games for the kids.

Five boats, Miss Holly II, Breaking Even, Strictly Business, KitKat and Jenny, were blessed by the Rev. Tim Navin, a pastor at Holy Family Catholic Church and San Marco Catholic Church.
