Our History

National Fisherman is the only media brand dedicated exclusively to covering the U.S. commercial fishing industry. From breaking news to deep-dive features, we deliver trusted content for commercial fishermen, boatbuilders, seafood processors, policymakers, and maritime professionals across the country.

Our legacy began in 1946 with Maine Coast Fishermen. In 1960, that publication merged with a New Hampshire title under the name National Fisherman, forming a national voice for America’s working waterfront. Over the decades, we’ve grown to serve every coast and fishery, adapting to the evolving needs of the industry we serve.

After more than 75 years in print, National Fisherman has transitioned to a fully digital platform, enabling us to reach a broader audience with faster, more flexible, and more dynamic content. While we no longer publish print or standalone digital editions, we continue to deliver the same trusted reporting and in-depth coverage through our website, newsletters, videos, and social media channels.

Embracing the digital realm allows us to offer real-time updates, enhanced multimedia content, and a more interactive experience. Our website will be a hub for the latest trends, expert opinions, and community discussions within the commercial fishing industry.
