In commercial fishing, every minute on the water counts. Operators demand equipment that delivers performance, durability, and control. Supporting this, ZF offers the industry an innovative product lineup, anchored by the rugged ZF W340 transmission and ZF TotalCommand Control System, and bolstered by new high-power expansions, like the ZF 9200 A/V and ZF AT 110 thruster, as well as hybrid-ready options.

Developed specifically for commercial fishing boats and other workboats, the W340 is built tough, featuring a cast-iron construction that reflects ZF’s commitment to ruggedness and reliability in demanding conditions. Paired with purpose-built propellers designed for commercial fishing operations, the W340 offers a medium-duty rating of 602 horsepower at 2,300 rpm and a continuous-duty rating of 508 hp at 2,100 rpm across most gear ratios.
ZF’s exclusive Supershift2 technology comes standard, delivering ultra-smooth clutch engagement and precise transmission output. Designed for flexibility, it pairs effortlessly with various engines and propulsion setups (including waterjets) and includes a built-in emergency "get home" feature.
ZF’s new AutoTroll 2 keeps fishing vessels under full control at low speeds while avoiding unnecessary strain on the drivetrain. AutoTroll 2 allows for more precise and adaptable control than the previous version, with its closed-loop control system ensuring faster and more accurate adjustment of propeller speed. This improves handling during maneuvers such as docking or dynamic positioning (DP) operations.

For larger, more complex vessels or those incorporating hybrid setups, ZF has expanded its transmission portfolio with the new ZF 9200 A/V. As the newest variant of the established ZF 9000 series, it can be installed in both V and A (down angle) positions for maximum design freedom. It handles a maximum main drive power of up to 3,903 kW, while its optional power take-in (PTI) supports hybrid operation with up to 700 kW. This enables electric-power boosts in dynamic situations or ultra low-noise and emissions free at lower speeds.

Combining robust transmission strength with next-generation control is TotalCommand, a fully integrated propulsion control system offering intuitive handling and fine-tuned response via advanced CAN-bus communication, multi-station controls, and JMS joystick maneuvering. TotalCommand is available in black anodized for commercial applications.

TotalCommand also integrates seamlessly with ZF’s latest AutoTroll Generation 2. This pairing optimizes low-speed handling (ex. maintaining positioning while hauling nets, maneuvering in tight harbors, or slow-speed trolling) by precisely modulating clutch slip to deliver exact thrust without risking drivetrain wear or requiring constant gear shifting.

To further empower complex vessel handling in challenging environments, ZF has introduced the ZF AT 110 thruster, the largest thruster developed by the company to date. Compatible with engine up to 2,944 kW, it is engineered for demanding offshore operations and high-performance maneuvering, utilizing a compact footprint and a revised lubrication system that reduces mechanical loads, along with optimized nozzle and propeller designs for peak efficiency and thrust.
As the commercial fishing industry adopts cleaner power options, ZF leads the charge with comprehensive hybrid-ready options. From transmissions equipped with power take-in (PTI) capabilities to advanced electronic control integrations, these solutions lower fuel consumption and emissions without sacrificing power, uptime, or control.
