Washington state fishermen can learn how to effectively treat hypothermia, near-drowning and accidents at sea during a Nov. 4 workshop at the Seattle Fishermen’s Terminal.

Sponsored by Washington Sea Grant and the Port of Seattle Fishermen’s Terminal, the Coast Guard-Approved First Aid at Sea Course runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Nordby Conference Room
of the Nordby Building in the terminal.

Space is limited, and pre-registration is required. The fee is $50 for commercial fishermen and $100 for all others. Register at the website.

The workshop covers all first aid that fishermen can face when caring for injured crewmates at sea:

• Patient assessment
• Hypothermia and cold-water response • Near drowning
• Shock and trauma
• Burns and fractures
• Choking and patient immobilization
• Using first aid kits.
