The U.S. Coast Guard is reminding recreational, charter and commercial fishermen the laws against poaching Atlantic Striped Bass.

According to U.S. Coast Guard Sector N.C. Enforcement Division Chief Lt. Jeff Padilla, the Coast Guard will be on patrol as the primary federal agency for at-sea enforcement of fisheries laws for those who possess or fish for Atlantic Stripped Bass within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which includes all waters between three and 200 nautical miles off the nation’s coast line.

Atlantic Striped Bass are commonly referred to as stripers or rockfish. The fish normally migrate south during winter seasons, following their ideal sea temperatures, according to Padilla.
