POQUOSON — Sisters-in-law Jan Rollins and Sarah Powell looked out over the dock at the Poquoson Yacht Club with sad smiles.

 

Powell held on to her granddaughters Kayla Powell and Gracie Trice as they wiped away tears shed remembering their grandfather, uncles and other loved ones, all of whom were watermen that have died.

 

Several dozen people gathered Sunday at Messick Point — Poquoson Mayor Eugene Hunt called it the city's home port — for a memorial service to honor the men who have worked the waters surrounding the town.

 

"It was very moving," Powell said, "to look out where they worked every day."
