LISTEN

Get ready to "maritime mingle" with conversation focused on the environmental changes that the commercial fishing industry has witnessed over the years in the Gulf of Mexico.

On April 23, from 2:30 PM until 5:00 PM, the Friends of the Florida Maritime Museum invite everyone to the "maritime mingle", a conversation focused on the environmental changes that the commercial fishing industry has witnessed over the years in the Gulf of Mexico. It’s time to listen to stories from the Gulf Coast commercial fishing industry in Cortez. The organizers say it’s going to be a fun and interactive discussion at which your table will "speed date" commercial fishermen, fish house workers, and others.

The organizers say, on the invitation: “Fishing communities depend upon healthy waterways. The men and women whose livelihoods directly reflect any environmental changes are incredibly connected to the ebbs and flows. What can we learn about the water that surrounds the Florida coast from their perspective? Join the Friends of the Florida Maritime Museum to find out!”

This event is FREE to the public but RSVP is required.

The Florida Maritime Museum

Founded in 2021, the Friends of the Florida Maritime Museum's mission since its inception has been to support the Museum through community outreach, education and financial support. Today the organization extends that mission to bring the Museum's historical perspective full circle by educating the public on the transformations facing Florida's present day commercial fishing industries.

The history of the fishing industry has made Florida what it is today. Serving the public since 2007, the Florida Maritime Museum's mission is to collect, preserve and share traditional knowledge, cultural artifacts and personal stories specific to Florida's fishing and maritime heritage. The museum shares these meaningful stories and offers a snapshot of old Florida through the lens of the Cortez Commercial Fishing Village.
