LISTEN

I’m just going to put this out there: I freaking love Christmas. Yet here I am watching the shopping days dwindle. It’s time to get cracking, so if you’ve put it off and Santa doesn't make personal deliveries to your boat, follow my lead for some last-minute scores for the fishy folks in your life of all ages.

For the fishermen

If you love a fisherman, give the gift of that extra measure of safety. The options run the gamut from stocking stuffer knives and clip-on LED lights to big-ticket items like a PLB, EPIRB, survival suit or inflatable work vest.

For the ladies

Grundéns and Salmon Sisters make a wide range of beautiful, seaworthy gear for the lady in your life.

SSAnchor

Salmon Sisters Anchor Leggings — $50

My Salmon Sisters top picks are the anchor leggings, octopus Xtratufs and for the lady who can’t get enough bags (who are you to say how many is too many?!) the salmon leather tote bag is a gorgeous and timeless gift.

But the Salmon Sisters have so much to choose from. You’re sure to find something fun for anyone.

Grundens has two lines of women’s gear specifically for commercial fishermen — Sedna is the equivalent of the Pro gear line, and Petrus is their tropical weight version for warmer climes.

I wish more of their women’s cuts for everyday gear had pink-free options. However, if the lady in your life enjoys pink on black, the hooded zip-up Eat Fish sweatshirt is a classic.

For the fellas

YetiTumbler

Yeti Tumbler — $30

If your guy doesn’t have a Yeti yet, it’s time. Cabela’s offers the Rambler Tumbler with the nonslip DuraCoat finish in two shapes and sizes — classic 20-ounce tumbler and a 30-ounce big enough to hold plenty of Joe but shaped to fit any drink holder. It comes in a variety of colors, but I love the classic green.

You really can’t go wrong with Grundéns gear, especially their sweatshirts — zip or pullover, hoodie or no.

My husband works outside year-round, so I like to get him a good base layer pair of thermal long johns and shirt every year. Duofold is my go-to, which I get at Reny’s in Maine, but it’s available pretty much anywhere.

Disposable heat packs make a great stocking stuffer. If you want to take it up a notch, check out the Thermacell rechargeable packs.

For the kids

FishingShack

Lego Old Fishing Store — $150

You can’t forget the little ones. Both of my boys have been playing with the Lego fishing shack for months. The big kid took a few days after school to put it together, and his little brother delights in taking it apart.

A perfect companion to this set is the Lego fishing boat. It’s definitely a sport fishing boat, but we left the charter logo sticker in the box and pretend it’s a tuna boat instead.

Some of the most popular accessories are the fish and the lobsters. Or catch one for yourself and tell everyone it's for the kids!

For anyone who loves the fruits of your labor

I love to give the gift of wild seafood.

Frenchy’s Stone Crab Co. in Palm Harbor, Fla., offers grouper filets, scallops, Key West shrimp and of course stone crab claws.

Taste of Maine

Downeast Dayboats' Taste of Maine — $130 (before shipping)

What goes better with scallops than sea salt and butter? Check out Downeast Dayboats’ Taste of Maine Collection, which pairs two 1-pound bags of melt-in-your-mouth scallops with Maine honey, butter, cheese, coffee, chocolate and more. Each item in this collection is the product of a small Maine company, including the independently owned scallop dayboats. If you’re looking for lobster or oysters, you can find that, too. https://www.downeastdayboat.com/buy-our-scallops/

For some wild Alaska flavor, check out Alaska Home Pack. Their Holiday Bonus Box has me starry-eyed. It comes with king crab, spot prawns, sockeye filets and halibut burger meat.

And what would a seafood gift be without a guide? Barton Seaver’s new "American Seafood" is the perfect Christmas gift for the seafood lover in your life. It’s a steal at $50 (read my full review here or in the NF February issue).
