On Feb. 11 in Barrington Provincial Court in Nova Scotia, an individual was convicted of two counts of failure to comply with conditions of licence, contrary to the Fisheries Act.

For two separate offences that fishery officers detected through aerial surveillance: Failure to report retained cod bycatch while fishing for halibut in waters offshore of Southwest Nova Scotia on September 16, 2022, and use of prohibited longline halibut fishing gear in Eastern Canyons Marine Refuge on April 15, 2023.

The individual was sentenced to pay a fine totalling $15,500 for these offences. To report suspected unauthorized fishing activity, please contact your local Conservation and Protection detachment.
