Federal officials say money for some at-sea fishing monitors that had been expected to run out at the end of the year will extend into early 2016.

Officials with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration previously said money for monitors in New England fisheries such as cod and haddock would be gone by year’s end. A spokeswoman said Wednesday the money could last until February. Cost will shift to fishermen when the money runs out. The monitors can cost about $800 per day at sea. Many New England fishing groups say the new cost will put some fishermen out of business.
