Alaska Department of Fish and Game biologists say the next commercial opening of the Copper River District for wild salmon harvests is anticipated to be on Monday, May 27, with the time and area to be announced on Saturday, May 25.

Meanwhile, the Copper River District is to open for subsistence fishing at 7 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, for a 12-hour period with waters within the Chinook salmon inside closure area to be closed during this subsistence period.

The Miles Lake sonar project is currently operational on the north bank of the river, but the south bank sonar has not yet been deployed due to low water and ice conditions.

The cumulative sonar count to date is no fish, whereas the anticipated count for this date was 19,602 fish, state biologists said.
