Diversified fishing group Oceana could be angling for a deal in the US.
Oceana, which is controlled by consumer brands conglomerate Tiger Brands, advised shareholders on Monday night that it was in "advanced discussions" with Daybrook Holdings, a US-based fishing and processing operation.
Oceana has been acquisitive over the past few years, buying parts of Lusitania Fishing and Foodcorp’s fishing business. But the company’s deal-making efforts in South African waters have proved difficult, with competition issues delaying the Foodcorp transaction for months.
Oceana has recently hinted at foreign acquisitions, but most market watchers expected it to perhaps look first at African opportunities.
