TOKYO — The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries says that the export of Japanese agricultural, fishery and food products hit a record high in 2014.

According to the ministry, exports last year increased by 11.1% to 611.7 billion yen, the highest figure since records started being kept in 1955. A ministry official said there was a downturn in fishery product exports for a period of time from the impact of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, exports picked up again last year due to a Japanese food boom, which resulted in an increased demand for Japanese food products overseas, Sankei Shimbun reported Thursday.
