A ban on shark fishing and chumming in Emerald Isle is being examined by a state agency.

Emerald Isle announced this week that anyone caught chumming the water or fishing for sharks in their town from now until September 15th, will suffer penalties.

Patricia Smith at the Division of Marine Fisheries, says are looking into the law to see if the town overstepped its boundaries in banning chumming and shark fishing.
