A Louisiana fisherman is facing multiple citations after state agents say he was found in possession of undersized fish and improper gear in the Gulf.

According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), Joshua Thanh Dinh, 53, of Duson, Louisiana, was cited for alleged violations of federal highly migratory species regulations, federal coastal migratory pelagic species rules, possessing undersized Spanish mackerel, and taking coastal pelagic species with illegal gear.

LDFW agents reported that while on patrol in the Gulf, they observed a commercial trawling vessel actively fishing and identified Dinh as the vessel’s captain.

During the inspection, agents said they found four bonnethead sharks and 63 Spanish mackerel onboard. Of those, 32 mackerel were allegedly below the legal minimum size of 12 inches.

According to LDWF, Dinh told agents he had caught fish in his shrimp trawls.
