The Massachusetts delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives is putting on a full-court press to convince that chamber’s Appropriations Committee to include $150 million in disaster aid to fishermen and fishing communities in the final omnibus appropriations bill.

 

The representatives, behind the leadership of Rep. William R. Keating, D-New Bedford, and Rep. Frank Wolf, R.-Va., sent a letter to the chairman of the subcommittee of Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies urging the inclusion of the disaster relief funds in Congress’ final budget.

 

”To date, the House of Representatives has failed to appropriate this emergency funding,” stated the letter that was signed by the entire Massachusetts delegation in the House, including Rep. John Tierney, D-Salem. “It remains imperative that Congress act to provide emergency funding immediately.”
