BRUNSWICK, GA (WTOC) — Georgia's food shrimp season for commercial and recreational shrimpers officially kicked off Tuesday at 6 a.m.

From 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset, commercial shrimpers can cast their power-drawn nets in state waters. However, shrimping is allowed 24-hours a day more than three miles off shore in federal waters.

Ambitious net-casters must adhere to the 1,000 foot boating safety zone along the beaches of Tybee Island, Sea Island, St. Simon's Island and Jekyll Island. The zone is in effect until Sept. 30.
