Thousands lined the shore to send best wishes to the captains of the East Cooper Shrimp Fleet. A procession of decorated shrimping and fishing boats left Shem Creek, heading towards Memorial Waterfront Park.

Father Len Williams of the Charleston Port and Seafarers Society and Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Reverend Gary Bullard were the ministers this year.

Started in Mount Pleasant in 1988 by the Magwood family with fellow shrimpers as a way to thank and support their community, the festival aims to educate the public about the importance of eating local, wild-caught seafood.
