MOUNT PLEASANT, SC - Monday morning Shem Creek Fisheries, a non profit organization working to help aid local shrimpers, went to Mount Pleasant's financial committee to ask how they can partner with the town in order to stay in business.

 

According to the organization's leader, Grace Edwards, the meeting was successful but it's in the beginning stages and not much can be done yet. She also said the organization would like to qualify as a charitable recipient at the Blessing of the Fleet, right now shrimpers don't receive more than t-shirt sale money from the event.

 

Considering the harsh winter of the Lowcountry, the past years of miserable shrimping and a growing demand for imported shrimp, the organization fears the industry is dying.
