One of Washington’s smallest aircraft companies is starting to build a new drone that can take off vertically and then loiter in the sky for nearly two days.

Aerovel Corp., which is based in the Columbia River town of White Salmon, is targeting the new drones at the fishery industry for the initial launch. If successful, seafood control agencies could use the company's Flexrotor drone to spot fisheries poachers, while legal fishing companies could use it to find the fish they want.

Success could also mean more jobs at Aerovel Corp., and more work for Washington state aerospace suppliers.
