When Reba Temple was nominated in senior superlatives as “Mariner for Life” by her fellow classmates of 2008, she thought nothing could be further from her future.

But one full-time teaching position at Homer High School, and a handful of years later, Temple is a self-declared “lifetime Mariner.”

 

“It is coming true,” laughed Temple. “As long as they have me back next year, I would love to be Mariner for life. I am doing my dream job; teaching during the winter, and fishing during the summer.”

 

Known in Homer for her athletic ability and the official title bestowed by the high school as “Mariner of the Year,” Temple is now a permanent fixture of the high school math department, and spends her summers in Bristol Bay running her late father’s fishing boat, the Cloud Nine.
