The captain of a commercial fishing vessel has been hit with several federal citations after being found fishing in a large marine protected area Sunday.
The boat and crew were found in the Tortugas Ecological Reserve, a 151-square-mile no-take zone in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The main restriction in the area, according to the sanctuary, is "fishing by any means; removing, harvesting or possessing any marine life."
The reason is because the reserve is a big fish spawning area.
