Two crewmembers were rescued from a fishing vessel that ran aground in Pasagshak Bay, near Kodiak, Alaska. No injuries were reported.

Coast Guard Sector Western Alaska and the U.S. Arctic command center received a distress report at 7:08 a.m. on Wednesday from the fishing vessel Quantum, which reported taking on water about two miles offshore.

Watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast, and nearby good Samaritan vessels confirmed that two people were aboard the vessel and wearing survival suits.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak at 7:19 a.m. The aircrew arrived on scene around 8:30 a.m., hoisted both crewmembers from the vessel, and transported them to awaiting emergency medical personnel in Kodiak.

“This case showcased the importance of maintaining proper emergency equipment like the survival suits donned by the crew of the Quantum,” said Ens. Anya Charm, command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Western Alaska and U.S. Arctic command center.
