“Wicked Tuna” cast member Paul Hebert could be facing substantial jail time and heavy fines if convicted on any of the four counts of alleged fraud contained in the federal indictment against him in Vermont.

Each of the counts in the indictment handed up by a federal grand jury last week in U.S. District Court in Burlington, Vt., carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or up to $250,000 in fines, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Eugenia Cowles.

Hebert, who fishes out of Gloucester and has been on “Wicked Tuna” since the fishing reality show first aired in 2012, is accused of illegally collecting more than $44,000 in Social Security disability and Medicaid benefits between 2010 and 2012, when he resided in Vermont.

Hebert is due in U.S. District Court in Burlington on Aug. 10 for his arraignment and first appearance, Cowles said.
