LANSING, MI — The governors of Michigan and Illinois are proposing to jointly pay $114 million toward an infrastructure project that would stop invasive silver and bighead carp from moving into the Great Lakes via Chicagoland waterways.
In a proposed 2024 budget released Feb. 9, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer included $64 million to help the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reconfigure the Brandon Road Lock and Dam on the Des Plaines River near Joliet, Ill.
