The Sitka Sac Roe fishery got quite a romantic start on Wednesday, March 29.

Fisherman Pete Feenstra, who captains the F/V Noble Provider, hailed fellow fisherwoman and captain Brannon Finney from the F/V Alaskan Girl on the radio to propose.

Feenstra had quite the audience- the entire fleet, ADFG, local processors, and many from the town of Sitka tuned into channel 10 for the proposal.

After Finney accepted the proposal the entire fleet was quick to respond on the radio with well wishes for the couple. “Congratulations!” and “Power couple!”  were two of the echoing responses to Feenstra’s public proposal.

“What a romantic start to the fishery.” One of the fellow Sitka boats remarked. The two were surrounded by the community that truly weathers through all the challenges that these two share, and they wouldn’t want it any other way.

Feenstra and Finney met six years ago in Sitka during the sac roe season and have since fished alongside one another.

From Alaska to every state on the west coast, and through salmon, crab, squid, herring, and everything in between, these two are truly a commercial fishing dream team.

Congratulations, Brannon and Pete!
