St. Petersburg, Florida — The Coast Guard rescued two people on Saturday after the 36-foot commercial fishing vessel they were aboard began taking on water 64 miles west of John's Pass.

The Coast Guard says a person aboard the vessel contacted them at 1:38 p.m., reporting they were keeping up with the flooding with a hand-held pump but needed assistance.

A helicopter crew from Air Station Clearwater arrived on scene, delivered a de-watering pump to the vessel and lowering a rescue swimmer to assist.
