An investigation into the Boundary Bay commercial crab fleet has led to steep fines and the first fishing prohibition issued in Surrey provincial court.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada says four vessel masters received fines and forfeitures totalling more than $287,000, while one captain received a fishing ban because of illegal fishing practices.
