Bri Dwyer is often introduced as the wife of Bering Sea and “Deadliest Catch” captain Sean Dwyer. But she is also a photographer who frequents Alaska fishing boats, including those in the family fleet that also tenders Alaska salmon in Southeast and Bristol Bay.

NF sat down to catch up with Bri about how she got into the industry, as well as her favorite hacks for cooking Alaska Seafood at home and on the boat. Bri and Sean also collaborated with the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute to offer a seafood box giveaway as part of ASMI’s #AlaskaSeafoodHacks campaign.

“We have asked our followers on Instagram to share their favorite cooking method for Alaska seafood to kind of uncover the best seafood hacks and also some of their favorite Alaska seafood recipes or dishes,” Bri Dwyer told NF. “We are giving away two seafood boxes valued at $400. They’ll be shipped directly to their front door. And it’s a great way to get Alaska seafood in your freezers.”

She shared some of her favorite submissions for the seafood hacks giveaway.

“They told me how you make Vodka butter, and then that’s what you dip the crab in,” Dwyer told NF. “A lot of pickled fish. That’s not something I’ve explored yet, but I do know it’s very popular.”

Dwyer also talked about the seasonality of cooking Alaska seafood, even when you’re taking it out of the freezer.

“Springtime is when we really start to stock up on a lot of our seafood. And start to kind of switch because we’ve gone through all of our salmon stock and so waiting to get more of that. But now we have crab and halibut and shrimp. And so we have the springtime to go through that before we refill with salmon.”
