The Gulf of Alaska provides invaluable training space needed to realistically train U.S. service members to protect and defend the United States and its allies. Northern Edge exercises are Alaska’s largest joint training exercises and occur biennially (typically every other year in odd years). The Navy has participated in Northern Edge exercises since the 1990s. During this exercise, the Navy takes actions to avoid or minimize impacts on the marine environment and marine species. The Navy is also a world leader in marine species research and monitoring efforts. To learn more, please visit www.navymarinespeciesmonitoring.us.
