Tony Oro tipped a bucket to reveal his purple prizes for enduring hours in a breezy downpour Saturday morning on Hood Canal. There lay five big Dungeness crabs and one bright red rock crab.

"Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not," he said of weather during winter crabbing, which opened Friday on the canal.

Saturday fit into the "not" category.
