A Rhode Island representative has submitted legislation to study the effects of ocean acidification on Rhode Island.

Rep. John G. Edwards (D-Dist. 70, Portsmouth, Tiverton) wants the commission identify the scientific data and knowledge available in order to craft policy and develop recommendations on how to respond to and mitigate the adverse effects of the process.

"Ocean acidification could be having a profound impact on Rhode Island, both environmentally and economically," said Representative Edwards. "Now is the time to see how this process is impacting the marine life that's so important to the ecosystem of Narragansett Bay and to the economic health of the state and livelihood of our commercial fishermen."
