ANNAPOLIS — Five watermen – three from Queen Anne’s County and two from Kent County – were charged Wednesday, March 5 with illegally taking oysters from a protected area near the mouth of the Wicomico River in Somerset County, according to a news release from the Maryland Natural Resources Police.

 

Citations were reportedly issued to Ryan Daniel Baxter, 20, of Queen Anne; Benjamin Leonard Reihl, 26, of Rock Hall; Adam Vincent Reihl, 21, of Church Hill; Harvey Thomas Bowers, 49, of Chestertown; and George Albert Lee, 45, of Dominion.

 

Police said officers acted on a tip. Using the Maritime Law Enforcement Information Network, which consists of radar units and cameras, officers reportedly track several boats that were patent tonging in the 69-acre Evans Oyster Reserve Area in a remote area of the river.
