An upcoming summit in Houma will help area fishermen and seafood harvesters.

The second annual Louisiana Fisheries Summit is scheduled for March 12 and 13 at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center, 346 Civic Center Drive.

Louisiana Fisheries 2014 is an educational and networking event for individuals involved in Louisiana’s commercial fishing and seafood industry. Registration is free.

The two-day summit includes hundreds of commercial fishermen, seafood dealers, processors and others from across the state. Organizers say the annual show is the Gulf South’s premier commercial fishing and seafood industry event.

Nearly 300 people attended last year’s summit’s first day, and more than 200 on the show’s second day. Because of the support shown last year, organizers decided to increase the capacity to accommodate nearly 400 this year.

Fishermen and seafood harvesters will learn about the latest updates, techniques and programs concerning commercial fishing and seafood production. The show will feature two different programs over the two days, including a trade show and dock day.
