PORTLAND, ME — The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation is awarding the Nature Conservancy $300,000 to implement electronic monitoring systems in the New England's fishing industry.

Senators Angus King and Susan Collins announced the funding on Wednesday. They say the project will be a collaborative effort with the local fishing industry that will equip up to two dozen fishing boats with electronic monitoring. The vessels are part of New England's groundfishing industry, which fishes for species such as cod, haddock and pollock.
