PORTLAND, Maine — The people leading Maine’s new lobster marketing effort say it’s already bringing increased sales out of state.

The Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative is rolling our five new videos this month to spread the message about lobsters through social media. Matt Jacobson, executive director of the Collaborative, told NEWS CENTER that chefs and “foodies” both gather lots of information from social media, so it has become an important method to get the lobster message to them.

The primary reason for the marketing push has been to get more chefs in big city restaurants to put Maine lobster on their menus.

Local marketers say that will lead to more consumers sampling Maine lobster, and then more sales. And a key to convincing chefs, says Jacobson, has been to let them meet real Maine lobstermen.
