PORTLAND, Maine —It appears only a few logistical hurdles are all that stand in the way of a new lobster processing plant opening up along Portland’s Maine State Pier.
At a workshop Tuesday evening, the city’s planning board heard from the operators of Shucks Maine Lobster who said they’re ready to go, as soon as the proper permits are in place.
“I think it can work. I think you can figure it out but you’re not there yet,” said Jack Soley, with the planning board.
The board stands firmly behind Shucks filling the vacant waterfront warehouse best known for its giant outdoor mural.
Still a concern however, issues such as truck traffic, noise, how the operation will coexist with the busy Old Port neighborhood.
“They gave us the feedback and now we go back, look over the issues they raised and come up with some workable solutions,” said John Hathaway, president of Shucks Maine Lobster.
