A nonprofit legal advocacy group is suing NOAA, charging the federal agency has "improperly withheld" records related to the appointment of new members to the New England Fishery Management Council.

In its lawsuit filed this week in U.S. District Court in Washington D.C., Cause of Action charges the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration failed to respond promptly and fully to its Freedom of Information request for documents related to appointments to the Newburyport-based NEFMC.

"The records at issue concern potential abuses in determining the membership of the New England Fishery Management Council," Cause of Action stated in its filing.

The complaint did not offer specifics regarding what those potential abuses might entail.
