U.S. Coast Guard crews suspended their search Monday for a boater reported missing after a fishing vessel was found abandoned and sinking half a mile south of the Cliff House at Ocean Beach.

 

But as the day wore on, the whereabouts of the boater remained unclear.

 

The Paloma, a 38-foot salmon fishing boat registered in Santa Cruz, was beached around 3:30 a.m. Monday, scattering debris and possibly leaking fuel off the San Francisco coast, the city Fire Department said.

 

No one was on the boat when authorities got to the scene, and rescuers were working to find the captain or anyone else who may have been aboard.
