YARMOUTH — Some recent convictions for lobster fishing violations in southwestern Nova Scotia involved fishermen who, in addition to being fined, are also prohibited from fishing for different lengths of time next season.

In August, the most recent month covered by Fisheries and Oceans Canada online postings, two Shelburne County lobster fishermen were fined for violations that included fishing untagged traps.

In separate cases, the men were fined thousands of dollars and also handed suspensions to take effect during the coming lobster season, beginning next month.
