The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is moving the Pacific whiting and non-whiting groundfish season opening date for the shore-based individual fishing quota (IFQ) program for midwater trawl fisheries, the agency said in a public notice on Thursday.

The fishery north of the 40°30′ north latitude, to the US-Canada border for the shore based IFQ program for midwater trawlers, will begin May 15.

This is a month earlier than normal for Washington and Oregon, although it is a a month and a half later for northern California. The change starts this year and will continue.
