The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries on Tuesday (Oct. 14) delayed "until further notice" the opening of the oyster season in a portion of the public oyster seed "in an effort to protect recently settled young oysters."
That area, east of the Mississippi River and north of the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet, had been set to open with some other public areas on Monday (Oct. 20).
The delayed opening includes the areas of Lake Borgne and Mississippi Sound. The oyster season still will open on Monday (Oct. 20) in the public grounds east of the Mississippi and south of the MR-GO.
