Capt. Joseph Fawcett says the past few days he’s spent shrimp fishing aboard the Little Lloyd with his family have been cold, but he doesn’t blame the weather for the less than stellar trip.

It’s just part of being a fisherman, Fawcett said. Sometimes they’re there, sometimes they’re not.

 

“Those shrimp can leave a spot overnight sometimes,” he said.

 

As a fisherman with 20 years of experience, he knows how to weigh the bad days against the good days.

 

He also knows it will take more than a few nights of freezing weather to drive the shrimp south in search of warmer water.

 

It is for this reason Fawcett is planning to take advantage of the last few weeks of fall trawling six or seven miles offshore, where he has had some decent luck this year.
