1. Question of the Day
This is part of my job out there. I’ll be starting the show off on the show floor asking a “question of the day” for National Fisherman’s Show Daily, a newsletter/magazine that will be handed out each day of the show. It’s like a “man on the street,” type thing. If I talk to you, we’ll be putting your response and photo in the Show Daily.
It can be pretty interesting to ask a stranger a random question… Let’s just say that journalism can be a lot like fishing — you just never know what you’re going to haul up in your net.
2. The Show Floor
When you see a booth with a lot of people around it, something’s going on. For me the interesting part of seeing these exhibitors in person at a show is to find out what products/services that people attending are excited about. What are the new products that people are really interested in? Of course a booth with a bunch of people around it could also just be one giving away some good free swag (that’s good too).
3. Fisher Poets
On the third day of the Expo, a group of Fisher Poets will be performing at 11:30 a.m., right before the Fisherman of the Year contest at 1 p.m. in the Keynote area on the show floor. The performers are the same ones who are part of the Fisher Poets Gathering in Astoria, Ore., who’ve gotten national attention. I’m looking forward to hearing them.
4. Profitable Harvest
Also on the third day of the show, National Fisherman’s Profitable starts at 8 a.m. with a breakfast with the editors. Jes Hathaway, Michael Crowley and I will be there to meet attendees, and then we’ll be around for the rest of the event. This seems to me to be one of the most important parts of the show. It’s not just how much you catch, but how you can make the most from that catch by saving on fuel and other costs.
5. Beer Garden
No need to explain this one, right? Also, I’ve heard Alaskan Brewing Company’s Amber is very good so I’m hoping to try it.
Of course I’m also planning to hit as many conferences as I can, and I’ll be at the National Fisherman show booth (#1021) as well. Looking forwad to seeing you at the show!
