Find a mediator and continue the dialogue!

That's the advice of the Marine Stewardship Council to several major seafood processors seeking to renew certification through the current MSC client for Alaska's wild salmon, the Seattle-based Alaska Salmon Processors Association.

MSC has suggested that the two sides quickly begin mediation in Seattle or a location of their choosing.

"MSC is prepared to identify a suitable facilitator/mediator, coordinate the process and pay for facilitation services," said Rupert Howes, chief executive of MSC.

Executives of ASPA, whose members includes Silver Bay Seafoods and Copper River Seafoods, have so far rejected the appeal of Alaska General Seafoods, Icicle Seafoods, Kwikpak Fisheries, Leader Creek Fisheries, North Pacific Seafoods, Ocean Beauty Seafoods, Peter Pan Seafoods and Trident Seafoods, who also want to include other processors wishing to join the client group.
