Preliminary updates from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game show that the Alaska commercial salmon harvest reached 148,116,000 fish by Sept. 9, and the catch total keeps slowly climbing.

The statewide catch includes 90,102,000 pink, 43,360,000 red, 9,524,000 chum, 4,653,000 silver, and 478,000 Chinook salmon.

Those preliminary numbers show Alaska's central region, including Prince William Sound, with the highest overall catch delivered to processors to date – a total of 82,532,000 fish, including 45,262,000 humpies, 34,629,000 sockeyes, 1,788,000 chum, 825,000 coho, and 28,000 kings.
