NEW BEDFORD — The fledgling Center for Sustainable Fisheries introduced itself to fishermen in Mauntauk, N.Y., on Friday as its president headed west to receive a fishing industry award in Seattle.
 
"This is really a part of a lot of port tours where we are actually speaking to fishermen and those in the fishing industry and get feedback from them," Chief Operating Officer Kate Kramer said.
 
"We can't properly represent what needs work without speaking to those who are impacted the most."

The Northeast Trawl Advisory Panel working group is scheduled to meet Aug. 2 in Boston to discuss using commercial fishing vessels to supplement current stock assessment surveys conducted by the Northeast Fisheries Science Center.
